Possible Consequences If You Don’t Post Consistently

When owning a blog, posting consistently is a big role and takes a lot of commitment and time.
When do I post? How many times a day should I post? These are the questions that I am hearing a lot over the past few days, however, I am here to tell you that it is all up to you, but be aware of the consequences.
Posting consistently may be a hard quality for many to do everyday, especially with the thousands of jobs being cut and schedules being really tight, however, I strongly encourage you not to give in. People tend to believe there is a certain period that you MUST post, however it is all up to you, but be aware there are some consequences that I would like to point out.
The Possible Consequences
- *Drop In SERPS(Search Engine Result Pages) – Having a blog and posting consistently is a great thing, but what happens if you just stopped posting all of a sudden? Well, the answer is that your blog will be possibly be buried down the search engines and lose rank in SERP. This is why you may have heard that you must post at least twice a week or three times a day. The search engines was developed to providing surfers the best convenient sites for their search and thus search engines bury “dead” websites down the rankings. It wouldn’t make sense if they kept all the “dead” websites on top would it?
- *Lose Loyal Readers – If your blog is new and it isn’t getting much loyal readers, it very important to commit to your blog and post consistently because then if you don’t, the only loyal readers you have will disappear thinking that the owner gave up or something. For new blogs with only a few entries, posting consistently is a big factor because if your site has no content then what are the viewers going to read?
NOTE: There are many factors and not only posts that determine how and why a site drops in SERPs.
The Exception
Although it may sound like you are forced to be stuck with your computer every day, there is an exception. If your site has been already been producing over hundreds of posts and is publicly known by many already with a huge audience and is spreading like Mc Donalds everyday, you don’t have to worry as much. Old sites containing over thousands of posts like Problogger and many more have the luxury of taking a break because they have provided thousands of entries for readers to read about for years, maybe even decades! Ever heard that content is the key? It’s true!
So, When Should I Post?
Ideally you don’t have to follow a certain routine, but it more ideally better because then your loyal readers can predict when a new entry will be made and be able to read it.

Very good advice. I saw your post over at BHW.
