These are some good suggestions for backlinks — the “Participating in Forums” one seems to be somewhat underrated lately. Many of my highest ranking pages at Karlonia.com are the ones that happened to attract “natural” links from people who posted in a forum somewhere and cited my article as a reference source. A few of these people even used proper anchor text in their postings, which was a nice little additional benefit.

Blog commenting, well that works, it’s one fringe benefti of why I am commenting here. But a lot of blogs use no follow link so yes good for backlink. But no, not always useful for SEO
Link exchanges. Not the most effective method of getting SEO soosting links but it’s better than nne
Forum participation, some directories and a few bookmarking sites. Really useful. Digg has me blown away at the moment
