Picking a niche or a theme for your site, shouldn’t be an job that should be decided within two minutes of your time. Research pays before deciding your niche because it can save your time and money, depending on who you are. There are certain rules that apply in the niche market you should research about, and here, we’ll talk about a few.
Is it “Packed?”
Is the niche in particular packed with interested readers? A good way to find out is to do research, and when I say research, I mean real research. Forums are a great source to pull traffic right? A great way to determine which niche is packed and fit for you is considering the amount of activity in forums. A method I used, before I developed MoolaDays was that I looked up forums with high activity rates, and from there on, I decided which niche was best fit for me. To check out activity rates, I strongly suggest visiting the Big Board Rankings. Please remember, there are also other factors that applies on why you should choose a certain niche, and not just particularly because it is packed.
Targeting Top Paying Keywords
Advertisements
Although many don’t mind monetizing off their sites, it is still a choice of factor depending on the webmaster and whom they want their web site to be. Researching and targeting a niche that is associated with a high pay rate theme, can impact your site’s earnings and become a determining factor as to if this is the right niche for you.
So, if advertisers were to pay $1.00 per click for a money making blog, the webmaster would get $1.00 each click because the ads will be relevant to the money makers theme. But, however, if a packed niche like music got a click, their pay would be different. They would generally get only a factor of the $1.00 and around $0.01-$0.10 per click. Ideally webmasters like a balance of having a packed theme and still having a decent pay rate for their niche. It all really depends upon what you want and how you do it. If PPC (Pay Per Click) doesn’t work, affiliate networks is always an option. For researching top paying keywords, I recommend Spyfu for researching keywords for Google Adsense.
The Keywords
Before you start search engine optimizing, it is always a great thing to research a head of time and promote only for keywords that you want to rank in. The sooner you find those uncompetitive keywords that you want to rank for, the sooner you will see search engine results. Learn more about keyword optimization.
Enthusiasm
Do you have enthusiasm for what you write? The more passionate you are with your niche, the more your readers will enjoy your pieces. Without self perseverance, it will be a hard to maintain, because if you aren’t passionate with the niche as much as your readers are, there is something bound to go wrong. You want to cross a balance between having a packed niche with a good paying keyword, and at least still have some passion for what you write about, because if you aren’t, it just won’t work out as planned.
The Domain
Is the domain memorable? Even the slightest words that make a domain catchy, makes it that much more memorable and easier to remember. Domain-ing is all about branding, and the deciding factor on your domain should take some time to think about because it will be your site’s reputation on the line, and not just you. Although I don’t have to want another sub topic for this, it is also always good to prepare a web theme that you will stick too, because everything like the site’s theme, domain, logo, has to do with branding and familiarity that will make your site that much more memorable.
