Webmaster’s Obsession With Google PageRank
Like any serious webmaster, you probably have read about the fuss revolving around the word “PageRank” and have seen the obsession that webmasters have around it, but is it really important and what impact does it have?

Defining What a Google Page Rank is Again
In a simple sentence, a Google PageRank is not an indicator used by Google to see your site’s overall performance in terms of search engine optimization, but rather a tool for signifying a site’s popularity. What Google uses to determine your site’s search engine results or SERPs, (Search Engine Result Pages) is they look at a combination of things in their algorithm, and not just your site’s PageRank. PageRank is just one of the hundreds of things that Google look at to determining your site’s SERPs. If you got that, you now know something that most webmasters fail to accept, even with reputable SEO marketers like Michael Gray and Aaron Wall stating that over and over.
The Obsession With The Number
A Google PageRank is just a number that is just one of the things that Google looks at in their algorithm, but it doesn’t determine everything. The only occasion as to why you should be concerned with your PageRank is when you are trying to sell ad spots on your website or want to join a particular network that require specific Alexa rankings and PageRanks. High PageRankings is also a way to symbolize that your website holds some authority as well. Other than that, PageRank is nothing more, but a number that is overly hyped that has some little to no impact to your site’s SERPs. My opinion is to just look away, PageRank will gradually come.
The Google PageRank “Trap”
What the Google PageRank wants you to do and how it brainwashes webmasters into doing dangerous activities with their websites that can negatively penalize their sites in the search engines.
- Resort to blackhat techniques that can get your sites banned.
- Believe that PageRank is everything in terms of SERPs and search engine optimizing.
- Start illegal campaigns that encourages them to buy high PageRank link backs.
- Start link farms as well as blog scrapers for backlinks.
- Purchase blackhat products as well as spamming softwares that can be particularly dangerous if misused uneducated.
Don’t fall for the Google PageRank trap, ignore it and if you are doing link building for the purposes of getting better SERPs, PageRank is bound to tag along sooner or later. It is like any other method that Google considers in their algorithm, and PageRank is simply one of those factors. It is always good to find a balance as to what search engine marketing strategy you are focusing on and not completely on only one method.

Sorry to have mislead you. I didn’t mean that PageRank meant little to no impact in traffic, but rather it is just one out of the two hundred things that Google looks at before deciding upon your site’s SERPs. There are a lot of things that come into play before Google decides your SERPs, and PageRank is simply only one of them. Age of the website, authority, and more also comes into play as well.
