If you’ve been to major Internet marketing forums like Warrior Forums, then you would know basically what bum marketing is. The idea of bum marketing is using free resources, like Craigslist, as a source to finding potential buyers; hence “bum” marketing, because you are basically leeching off other site’s traffic. Bum marketing is one approach of Internet marketing and I’ll tell you why it still works today.

Bum Marketing

The undeniable fact that a lot of consumers as well as job seekers inhabit free online resources like classified ad sites like Craigslist to seek out opportunities, is what powers bum marketing. (a list of top classifieds to post free ads) Until free resources, such as, free online forums, classified ads, websites, don’t coexist with one another,  I don’t see bum marketing dying anytime soon. Sure it may be a bit more saturated now than it was 4 years ago, but the potential still stands.

When dealing with customers on classified ad sites, you know they have an objective already and you must study it. Now that bum marketing is as saturated as it is, meaning a lot of competition, you must be sure to value every single potential customer you find.

Bum Marketing vs. Standard Marketing

What separates bum marketing from standard Internet marketing is that you don’t have a landing page or in other words, you don’t have your own dedicated web page to promote your product. If a “lost” customer wanted to do a search on you, they couldn’t find you anymore because your not in the search engines in one designated place. That is one of the flaws of bum marketing.

Overall, bum marketing still has it’s potential to earn a quick buck for a few experienced marketers, however, it isn’t really a long term strategy; one of the reasons why I don’t really do bum marketing as one of my marketing strategies. I find that bum marketing nonetheless, is a great stepping stone for new beginners who want to make a quick buck through the Internet and also learn the aspects of business on the way. All that is required is a product to promote and common sense. If you have those essential qualities, you’d be sure to make your first profit in no time.
