How to Submit a Sitemap to Bing

Bing SitemapBing is now considered one of Microsoft’s biggest creations in tackling the Internets market share for search. Although Bing only holds a fraction of the market share (8.96% from Business Insider) as of now, don’t forget, any search engine is an opportunity to get free traffic. In regards to that, we’d like to illustrate how to submit a sitemap to Bing and get your homepage indexed.

How to Submit a Sitemap to Bing

Before we mention sitemaps, a great alternative to sitemaps if you don’t have a sitemap is to submit your link manually for Bing to crawl. All it takes is typing in a simple fill-in the form Captcha and web URL and hitting Submit. You can do that here. Although this is no replacement for sitemaps, it is a great way to get found in a large search engine like Bing, without having to fuss about having a sitemap.

The steps to submitting a sitemap to Bing is pretty simple and straight forward. Follow these instructions and your site is bound to be indexed in no time.

  1. Your first step is to register for a Microsoft Windows Live account if you haven’t.
  2. After you have finished verifying your account, your next step is to log-in into the Bing webmaster zone.
  3. If you haven’t, add the site you want to add your sitemap to Bing in the webmaster panel by selecting ‘Add a Site’.
  4. Now verify that you are the owner of the site. Once you have accomplished this step, you are practically finished.
  5. Now click the URL of the site you have now authenticated and verified ownership to.
  6. Look for a tab named ‘Sitemaps’ and now type in your site’s sitemap and hit submit.

Now from this point on, you have successfully submitted your sitemap for Bing to crawl. Like any search engine, whether it be Bing or Google, it takes time to crawl pages, so don’t be alarmed if your pages still aren’t indexed in the first few days. It simply takes time even for a big search engine like Bing to crawl pages. Just think, there are millions of webmasters like you out there who want their site to be indexed as well. Just be patient, and before you know it, your site will be crawled and added to Bing’s search results.
