Increasing Your Income From Article Sites with Affiliate Links

This is a guest post from MoneyWriter – a freelancer.

I’m a huge fan of making money by posting articles on sites like Bukisa, AssociatedContent, and Ehow.  While with enough articles and some good linking, you can make decent money with this, the real money comes from pushing your own affiliate products with these sites.  You may have heard that this is illegal or against the terms of the sites.  In some cases this is true, but I have found that the vast majority say nothing about it, and even if they do catch you, you just stop and continue on your way.

This is definitely worth a try for anyone who wants to escalate their revenue from article sites.  If you are not yet doing affiliate marketing, you must start that before you can use it on your articles.  Join a site like http://www.clickbank.com/ , http://www.linkshare.com/, or http://www.cj.com/.

Register for an account with one of these or all of them, if you like.  The affiliate program does not matter that much.  After joining, you will be able to search for companies and products that use the site to promote their business.  Find ones that are related to your articles or at least that you can write good articles about.  I find dating sites, eBook offers and magazine subscriptions can work quite well.

When you are looking at a product that you can promote, make sure that it uses cookies for several weeks.  This way, if the user clicks on your link and then buys the product a month from now, you still get the commission.
After choosing an affiliate product, I like to write a half dozen articles that revolve around the product, giving my affiliate link in the resources section, or if I can in the body of the article.  For example, when I was promoting a financial service site, I wrote a couple about stock investing, recommending that people get professional assistance and not rely only on their own intuition.

Weaving the product in like that gets much better results because users think that you are just trying to help them out by getting them a good idea as to where they should get help.  I have also had great success with promoting online dating sites because they pay really good commissions and have tons of brand recognition already.
The key, I have found, is making sure you fully understand the industry and what people are looking for in terms of information and products.  If you do not subscribe to any magazines, you will not be very good at convincing others to buy magazine subscriptions.  There are still tons of opportunities out there for you, though.  Scrolling through the listings at affiliate sites can get you some great ideas.
Another way to go about this is to look at your existing articles and see if you could add some affiliate links to them.  This works well because the articles hopefully have some links going to them, and you can get a larger audience to work with.

No matter how you approach it, using affiliate links in your articles will dramatically increase your profits.  A single completed ebook sale can net you twenty dollars or more, which is probably a month of your normal article success.  Good luck with this program and stick to it, as you wait for your profits to start rolling in.

  • Even though it sounds good, I don’t think this will generate a decent income for the effort it takes to write quality articles. What about losing credibility by promoting affiliate links in articles?

  • I don’t think promoting affiliate links make you lose credibility as long as it relates to the general topic of what your post is about. You see many top blogs like ProBlogger promote his 31 Days to Build a Better Blog ebook and I don’t see anyone shouting at him. It is really all about what mixes within the context. Most readers wouldn’t even mind.
