As you may have noticed, for the last few days, we have been testing Infolinks on our article directory Articles MD. Nowadays, I see a lot of blogs as well as forums incorporate in-text advertising as their solution of monetizing a website, and the idea was, I would try it and experiment with it too. Although my results may not reflect how you may succeed with Infolinks, it is just a personal review of my earnings and how I feel about the program.
How Infolinks works
The idea is with Infolinks is that if you have a website with a lot of steady readers, you may consider in-text advertising as your method of making money from your website, without having to sacrifice any real web real estate. Cool concept right?
All there is to incorporating Infolinks is a bit of Javascript code underneath your website and a bit of configuration as to how you want to style how Infolinks highlights text. It is pretty straight forward and best of all, the process is set and forget. Meaning, you just add the Javascript code and thats it. Meanwhile, Infolink’s real time tracking system keeps track of what impressions and clicks your website generates in the background when you login to your Infolink account.

My personal experience
I have been toying with Infolinks since Monday, January 18, 2010 and up to now, Tuesday, February 16, 2010, Articles MD has generated around $7 for the month. In the beginning stages (the first few days of using Infolinks), Article MD wasn’t getting as much impressions as it does now (reason why revenue was low), however, after a course of a few weeks as Articles MD was still developing, Infolinks was paying considerable well. I’d say revenue averaged around $0.23 per click. You can see the report here (click to enlarge).
Note that my experience with Infolinks was done on a small scale of visitors.
I’ve heard that Infolinks generally pays a lot more for clicks that reside in the U.S., meaning, they generally don’t pay anything for clicks that reside outside of the United States. It could be a combination of that and trying to experiment with the in-text ads, that explains the earnings in some of the “odd” days of testing Infolinks.
Anyhow, through out the whole process, I wasn’t looking for a new great way to make money quick, but rather just to experience and test how the revenue of Infolinks can compare to other networks. I’ve personally tried other in-text advertising solutions like Kontera, and have been proven repeatedly that Infolinks is superior in terms of rewarding publishers.
Overall, I think Infolinks is a great addition to supplementing an extra way to improve your overall web profits if you have a somewhat reasonable amount of readers that reside in the United States. My experiment I believe shouldn’t dictate if you should join or not, but rather inspire you to try it out yourself. There are a lot of stories of people who claim that Infolinks is one of their best sources of income and for some others, not so great. Remember that in my experiment, profits gradually increased because over the course of the month, it went from 0 visitors to now, around 70-100 visitors a day. So we’re looking at around $1 for the typical 70-100 visitors. I would consider that pretty reasonable and at a large scale, can indeed be profitable.
One of the great things about Infolinks is that it can work with any other ad solution you are incorporating, which means if you already have Google Adsense implanted on your site, you can leave it there – no problem. One thing that I’ve found that has astonished me was that while Infolink’s revenue with Articles MD wasn’t “great,” ever since implanting it, revenue for Google Adsense has risen. So the effects of adding it actually caused a positive effect to my Google Adsense earnings. Relying on not one, but a combination of ways to make money off your website is key to maximizing your profits and in this case for me with Infolinks, it has been proven true once again.
