10 Effective PPC Advertising Strategies for Google Adwords

PPC Advertising (pay per click) or in this case, Google Adwords, is most often overlooked by webmasters. Although I know many webmasters hear horror stories of PPC campaigns like Adwords going crazy, most of the time it is due to lack of attention. PPC advertising still holds to be a strong legitimate way to earn back your income and more some. To effectively make money from Adwords, it takes a lot of studying because every little thing is on the line. This time, you will be paying for every click/visitor you receive and ultimately, it will test if your landing page is bad or not. Trying to rank for the search engines while having a bad landing page is acceptable, however with PPC advertising, if you got a low unprofessional converting page, you will be punished in your wallet.

Here, I’ll list a few of my tips which I incorporate in some of my Adword campaigns and have found a significant impact in terms of quality as well as clicks. My best advice whenever trying a program something like Adwords, is to always best to have your landing page done and prepared to be promoted. Or else you will be losing money, which isn’t fun.

  1. Always Split Test – Whenever starting your very first Adword campaign, always split test. What split testing means is that you try a different variation of your ad display. Like for example, if your ad title was How to Make Easy Money, your second ad (the split test), may be How to Make Money Easily. You get the idea? Split testing ensures that you get top-notch clicks as well as help determine which ad is more enticing to visitors.
  2. Filter Words – When starting your ad campaign, your goal is to attract quality visitors. If your trying to promote a certain product, use words like: [Product Name] Scam? or the phrase I Just Bought [Product Name], you get the idea. This ensures that whenever someone clicks your ad in the search engines or in any Adsense ad powered website, your ad will only be clicked if they are interested in the product you are promoting. This helps to ensure that you are only paying for targeted traffic and nothing more.
  3. Discover Buying Keywords – Use the Google Keyword tool and try to find buyer keywords from searches you know that they are that* close from buying a product. When doing this type of research, it takes a lot of common knowledge and testing to actually discover a keyword like this. But once you have found a keyword like this, no matter how small the monthly searches are, It is a profitable experience. Because with PPC advertising, quality is all that matters. There will probably be tools to help you find keywords like these, but for the most part, you must use your common sense to determine if it is really a buying keyword. Tools are prone to fail.
  4. Funneling Search Engine Traffic Only - Whenever I want quality traffic, traffic that is specific and right on, I always turn off the option “Content Network” under “Networks, devices, and extensions”. There is one particular reason for this, to ensure quality targeted visitors who search up my terms in the search engines are the only ones able to click my ad. This funnels in only targeted traffic and funnels out traffic that you don’t want.
  5. Just for the Sake of Advertising – If there was ever a project that I had, that I wanted it to be publicly known just for the sake of branding, I would research somewhat related keywords that are uncompetitive and are really cheap in terms of CPC (cost per click). The goal of this is not to get quality, but to distribute your ad for many viewers to see for the sake of branding and other means. When doing this, it can be a effective way to get your website well known if you keep at it for a few weeks. However, as low as the CPC may seem, it will be pricey.
  6. Making Profits? Don’t Limit Your Budget – One of the biggest mistakes I see most new PPC marketers do is limit their budget when they know that they will be making a greater income back through intensive testing. Why would you limit your budget when you know that you will make x% more back? Although I know it is probably because people assume the worse, in most cases if you have done your research, it is best to let your campaign let loose.
  7. Consider Other Ad Networks – Don’t only consider Adwords as your only place to distribute your ads, consider other ad networks like Microsoft’s Adcenter, Facebook, and Yahoo’s Adcenter program. Most of the time, they are a lot cheaper than Google Adwords and the traffic is just as beneficial as Google’s. I have heard in some cases that the other alternatives may even convert more than Google traffic. Test other alternatives, and not just test to one. It may be different for search individual. Remember, testing is key to successfully make money online with PPC advertising.
  8. Use Proper Capitalization – One of the differences I have seen is that using capitalizations on the necessary areas, may tremendously make your ad more noticeable. An example of using proper capitalization is when writing your ad URL, write it like this: http://www.MoolaDays.com. This not only makes it more easier on the eyes, it makes your ad stand out a bit more. Tweaking is key to effectively market with PPC advertising and every little bit counts.
  9. Picking a Product to Promote – In most cases, when you hear about PPC, you most often hear about someone selling a certain product. With great affiliate sources like Clickbank and other means, you are eligible to promote products that you can earn a great compensation for selling their product. Picking a product is easy, but in most cases with PPC advertising, what you want is to pick a product that isn’t so competitive or saturated. I see a lot of people take advise from PPC marketers and do the same thing to find that they have no experience at all and quit. Always study competitors, but if you are just beginning, it is best to find a market that you know is profitable and easier to dealt with.
  10. Look for HIGH Paying Products to Promote – In most cases, a lot of people infer that by promoting a product that is easy on the wallet, they are for sure to get more sales than opposed to trying to sell something is at a higher cost. In most cases, this isn’t typically true with PPC advertising. The reason why that is so is because you are dealing with targeted traffic here, not any ordinary traffic. If you were promoting a product that earned you around $300 in compensation when a customer buys, it is no different from a customer wanting to buy a product in which you compensate $30, because you will be looking for and targeting buyer keywords. In most cases, if viewers are searching up buyer’s keywords, they are probably already that* much close to buying the product. And if you happen to be the end user where he/she purchases off your landing page, you will indeed be a happy camper.

That is why I cannot emphasize the most that in order to make PPC advertising successful, you must have a killer landing page. No ads, no distractions, just all about that one product you are promoting. That is how most marketers market their products through PPC advertising. And speaking of PPC advertising, Google is currently having an odd, but rather fun event for university students.

Every year, Google does a online marketing challenge and gives each individual marketing team that enters, $200 dollars of free advertising on their Adword network, and decides who made the most bang with the money each team was given. If you still reside in school, this event may actually be pretty fun. You can read more about Google’s Online Marketing Challenge here.

Split testing helps to give you a glimpse of which is the better of the two ads. From there, you just continue to split test until conversions keep on increasing. Minor tweaks, however, it is an effective strategy with any PPC campaign.
