July 23rd, 2010
“Summer set lip to earth’s bosom bare,
And left the flushed print in a poppy there….”
This is a guest post from Francis Thompson
These lines might remind you about your grand mom’s cottage on the hill top amidst the field. It appears like a painting and the thought of it rejuvenates us in between a hectic work schedule. We need to move out from the bustle of city life as this vacation acts as a breather in our mechanical life.
Lack of job security and economic downturn would not allow you take the liberty of an extravagant trip. Your dream shatters the very moment when you start calculating the expenses associated with the vacation. If you are meticulous in your approach to expenses then you might save yourself from burning a hole in your pocket while you are planning for a vacation.
Do not waste a single moment as this article would help you provide you with tips on frugal summer vacation. So call up your friends and inform them that “I am leaving on a Jet plane don’t know when I’ll be back again”.
Prepare a budget:
Before you plan for a frugal summer vacation start preparing a budget. If you fail to make a budget your eyes might pop out to see the exorbitant credit card bills after you come back from the vacation. Proactive measures should be taken so that you keep the debt issues at bay. Budget would help you to organize your trip within your budget. In order to avoid getting drowned in to the sea of debt budgeting is the solution to the problem. You would have a clear picture of the expected expenses associated with the trip.
Look for new location:
Try to explore new locations where the tourist foot is comparatively lesser. The popularity of the place and the peak season drives the hotel owners to hike the price. These are the fancy charges the visitor has to pay due to the popularity of the location. Search for places that has not been yet ventured by the tourists that would help you to save thousands of dollars on your trip.
Hotels at lower rates:
The cruise companies and the hotels sometimes offer discount and special packages. Search on Internet so that you get better offers at affordable price. You can even compare the rates of different hotels and can choose from one of them that seemed to be pocket friendly. If you have a life membership with any chain of hotels look for that hotel at the place you are visiting.
Avail the discounts and offers:
At times the discount coupons come along with the free tourism booklets. You can use the coupons on visiting the theme park or some tourist spots. If you want to enjoy the vacation without spending much then make full utilization of these coupons.
Try out the local flavor:
The local cuisines are generally cheaper compared to the food offered by the hotel at an unreasonable rate. The local restaurants would be able to satisfy your culinary bud. Local cafeteria, street food and restaurants are affordable with mouth watery cuisine.
Hire a vacation rental:
A vacation rental can be ideal if you are going with a group friends. These rentals would be more affordable compared to a hotel room if you are planning to save some bucks. A room would cost between $400 to $700 per week on sharing with another family. You also have an option of cooking as there are kitchens attached to these vacation rentals. You can save a good amount of money as do not have to rely on any outside source for your food.
These are the few ways that would help you to enjoy a frugal summer vacation. Follow these tips and have a great vacation!

I haven’t been on a real vacation in years. I really need to start planning ahead more, instead of just waiting until summer creeps up, and then watching it fly by. That’s pretty much what happens every summer, including this one. Sure, I’ve gotten some stuff done, but I haven’t had much fun. Then you tell yourself, “There’s always next summer,” and then it turns out being just the same. It’s a vicious cycle that desperately needs to be broken. One vacation a year is way too little – zero is a sin. Thanks for the article…
Great post!
I especially agree with the vacation rental part! They are a lot of fun and great for family vacations.
Also, if you list your home on a vacation/apartment rental website and plan your vacation while somebody stays at your place, you might be able to make enough money to entirely fund your trip or greatly subsidize it!
There are tons of resources available that will teach you how to make money on the internet. Heck, I’ve written tutorials like that myself. But, perhaps it’s easier to demonstrate what to do, with a lesson on what not to do. This article will teach you how to drive visitors away from your website screaming “Get me outta here!” If you prefer being alone with your website and don’t want all those pesky visitors bothering you, then follow the guidelines below and you’ll get rid of them quick as a blink.
1. Don’t state on your website what you do or what you sell. Make it a complete mystery why you decided to build your website in the first place. It’s like a secret club — your visitors are left in the dark. Have you been to sites like this where you show up and think “What the heck is this site about?” If you’re not presenting a clear statement about why your visitors should spend their money
Cooking for yourself is definitely a great way to save. That’s a big advantage of staying in a vacation home over a more expensive hotel. But you don’t want to spend all your vacation time in the kitchen so it is important to have some easy to prepare meals on hand. Here is one of our favorites.
